Sit Back And Enjoy The Ride
Are you tired; burnt out from trying to control your life? Well, I have an answer- stop doing it. Okay, I admit, that’s oversimplfying things a bit. But, honestly, we really can learn to let go and turn our lives over to the control of Someone who can easily run it better than we can.
I Peter 5:7 (KJV) says:
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
For years I knew that God meant what He said when He gave us that scripture, but I could not wrap my mind around HOW we are to actually do what He said. I tried mentally imagining that I had thrown my cares onto Him. I even acted out throwing my cares on God, making pitching motions with my arm. I wrote my cares down, crumpled the paper, and tossed it as far as I could. And while these are nice, symbolic gestures, they did not provide me the answer I was looking for. Finally, after time spent in the Word, He told me how to cast my care, and today I am going to share it with you. First, let’s start by looking at this scripture in a few versions to get more clarity.
I Peter 5:7 (Amplified Bible, AMP):
casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].
I Peter 5:7 (The Passion Translation, TPT):
Pour out all your worries and stress upon him and leave them there, for he always tenderly cares for you.
First of all, why should we give God our worries, cares, anxieties, and problems? These versions of I Peter 5:7 clearly tell us- because He loves us. Mankind was not created to carry these things, and our Father is more than able (and willing) to take them. So the first step in casting our cares onto Him is to admit that we are unable to handle them ourselves. Secondly, we must truly believe our heavenly Father loves and cares for us. If we know someone loves us, we are able to trust them with our problems.
I John 4:16 (Modern English Version, MEV) says:
And we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.
The best way to increase your belief and trust in the love of God is to get in the Bible and find scriptures about the love of the Lord. Meditate on those verses. Think on the good things that He has already done for you to show His love. Don’t rely on your feelings- make the conscious choice to believe that He loves you fully and completely.
Once you believe that He loves you, casting the care becomes simple and easy. Tell Him you are turning over your problem or worry to Him. Then, be determined not to think about the matter any further. Of course, the enemy will try to bring it up in your mind, but rebuke him and resist the temptation to think about it. Rest. Go about your life as if the issue does not exist. If God reveals things you are to do about the matter, be obedient and do them- but refuse to worry about it.
So, it’s as easy as 1-2-3:
Admit you can’t carry the care.
Believe that God loves you and will carry it for you.
Give Him the problem and refuse to take it back.
When we give God control, we can relax and have fun. Life is not meant to be lived in anxiety, fear, and stress. When we allow God to be in charge of the things that come against us, He makes things happen for us. So, quit trying to be the lord of your own life; give it to the Master and Creator of the Universe. Let Him have His way- just sit back and enjoy the ride!
