Light and Life

In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 1:4 (KJV)

This verse is speaking of Jesus. Light gives life. God is both light and life.

It is a scientific fact that nothing can live in absolute darkness. We see that demonstrated in Genesis 1.

The earth was barren, with no form of life; it was under a roaring ocean covered with darkness. But the Spirit of God was moving over the water. Genesis 1:2 (Contemporary English Version, CEV)

God spoke light and the Spirit of Life brought the Word of life to pass, bringing light forth. Jesus is light, and as we receive Him, we become children of light. As we walk in the light of the Word, which is Jesus, it imparts light and life in us.

Light speaks of revelation. Consider the following verse in Matthew.

The eyes of your spirit allow revelation-light to enter into your being. If your heart is unclouded, the light floods in! Matthew 6:22 (The Passion Translation, TPT)

As we get in God’s Word, light comes to our spirits, imparting life, guidance, revelation, wisdom, and so forth. Life is given as we abide in Jesus, the Light. As we walk in light, we develop in the things of God.

The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130 (NIV)

Since God’s Word gives light, then the more of the Word that we receive, the more light we walk in and the more revelation we will get. It shows us what to do, where to go, and keeps us from being deceived, because light exposes darkness.

Light and life go together, expelling the works of death and darkness. Walk in the light and experience the life-giving power of God.
