It seems like just yesterday I was just starting in life.  As I look back, I can’t help but think, “Where did the time go?”

There were a number of things that I had set out to accomplish, and I did them.  And there are some that I have yet to do.  I do what I can with what God has given me, and I try to take things one day at a time.  I have walked with God for nearly 40 years now, and I can say I don’t regret even one day with Him.  And I am discovering that my life is just getting better as time goes on.

Meditating on certain scriptures can help keep the brevity of life in perspective, and encourage us to make the most of our days.

Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath. We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it. Psalm 39:4-6 (NLT)

Since life is so short, what’s the point to it all?  The point is simple really; it’s to know God and to live for Him.  When we do that, He will help us make each day count. Don’t hold anything back from the Lord.  Give Him your all, and He will take it, bless it, and multiply it- just as He did the fish and loaves.  He will use it for your good and for His glory.

Ephesians 5:16 uses the phrase, “redeeming the time.”  In other words, make the most of the time you have.  We are to invest time instead of wasting it.  We do this by living for God.  As we do, we are investing in something and Someone bigger than ourselves.

Life may be short, but what we do while we’re here can have everlasting rewards.  If we love and respond positively to people, as well as love God and ourselves, we will be enabled to live each day to the fullest.  Even the worst day can turn into a great day if we live it for God from a sincere heart.  The life you live for God will be the legacy you leave.  It will outlast you and last into eternity.  Life is short.  Live it well by living it for God.
