A Deeper Word

You're Never Alone

I heard the Lord speak to me recently, "Jim, you're never alone."  This isn't the first time He has spoken this to me.  I can remember instances in the past when I went through some really, really rough times.  I felt like I was by myself.  Yes, I felt lonely, but the Lord would remind me, "I am with you."

Years ago, I went through a broken marriage, and I felt betrayed, lied to, cheated on, and used.  The hurt in my heart compounded the loneliness I felt.  I wanted to be around people, but it was hard for me to trust.  Deep down I knew that everyone was not out to get me, but the devil lies to us and wants us to think they are.  When feelings of loneliness came, I would read the Word of God, and He would fill me up and strengthen me to go through the day.

Psalm 34:18 (English Standard Version ESV) says:

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

The Message (MSG) says it like this:

If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.

God mends broken hearts.  It's what He's all about.  He mended me and He can mend you if you're hurting.

Psalm 145:18 (KJV) reminds us:

The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

As we call upon the Lord, and get real with Him, He is there.  Tell Him how you are hurting and what makes you hurt.  He will come to you and comfort you by His Spirit.  He will draw you close.  He is a loving, tender Father who longs to draw His children near.

James 4:8 tells us to draw near to God and He will draw near to us.  It is a personal invitation to draw near.  God is a personal God.  And you are a person with whom He wants to have a close, personal relationship.  No other relationship will satisfy you.  Jesus and Jesus alone satisfies.  So fall totally in love with Jesus and let Him love you as I did.  He will melt all your hurt, distrust, and emotional scars.  Yes, we still can be hurt and disappointed by people, but make it a practice to always run to Jesus and give it to Him.

No matter how lonely and isolated you feel, remember that in reality you are never alone.  Here are a few more reminders from the Word to confirm it.

Hebrews 13:5 (KJV):

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Genesis 28:15 (KJV):

And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

Psalm 139:7-12 in The Passion Translation (TPT) is particularly powerful.

Where could I go from your Spirit?  Where could I run and hide from your face?  If I go up to heaven, you’re there!  If I go down to the realm of the dead, you’re there too!  If I fly with wings into the shining dawn, you’re there!  If I fly into the radiant sunset, you’re there waiting!  Wherever I go, your hand will guide me; your strength will empower me.  It’s impossible to disappear from you or to ask the darkness to hide me, for your presence is everywhere, bringing light into my night. There is no such thing as darkness with you.  The night, to you, is as bright as the day; there’s no difference between the two.

God really is with you.  Jesus was called Emmanuel, which means "God with us" (Matthew 1:23)  Even His name says it.  You are never alone.
