Don't Quit

We’ve all been there. Troubles seem to pile up, and it takes all your faith just to get up in the morning. Or maybe tragedy has struck and you are trying to put the pieces back together. Or it’s possible that you’ve just been dealing with one nagging problem for so long that it looks like it will never go away. Each of us has been tempted at one time or another to throw in the towel; to give up. And that’s just what the enemy wants us to do.

I came across a short poem years ago that always seems to speak to me in such times. I am including it here to help encourage you.

Don't Quit
by
John Greenleaf Whittier

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is strange with its twists and turns
As every one of us sometimes learns
And many a failure comes about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow—
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out—
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell just how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit—
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

We must remind ourselves not to give up. Just think, right now you are closer to your breakthrough than you’ve ever been before. So, go get your Bible, open it up and absorb some of its life-giving encouragement. There is a light at the end of the tunnel- and you’ll make it if you hold onto faith. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. God won’t let you down. It’s when things seem worst that you MUST NOT QUIT.
