All For The Glory
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. I Corinthians 10:31 (NIV, emphasis mine).
Whatever we do, our actions are to glorify God. If something doesn’t glorify God, then we shouldn’t do it. As Christians, God’s Word should govern all that we do. That means everything.
The Word should direct our selection of friends. It should instruct us on our entertainment choices. It should guide us in where to live and work. It should frame how we view the world and society. Yes, that means that it even has a place in directing how we vote.
According to the Word, we will give an account to God for EVERYTHING we do- not just what we do on Sunday morning. God’s Word and His will should permeate every part of our lives.
For we [believers will be called to account and] must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be repaid for what has been done in the body, whether good or bad [that is, each will be held responsible for his actions, purposes, goals, motives—the use or misuse of his time, opportunities and abilities]. II Corinthians 5:10 (Amplified Bible, AMP)
Let’s just take voting for example. The Bible says thou shalt not kill, which is actually “Thou shalt not murder” in the original Hebrew text. If we vote for someone who endorses abortion, we are a party to murder in God’s eyes. If we vote for someone who believes Israel should be driven from their land, then we are taking part in that- and God does not approve of anyone coming against His people or trying to take their land. (Genesis 12:3, Genesis 17:1-9, Psalm 122:6). I could go on and on, but we can see from God’s Word what we should vote for or against. And ignorance is not an excuse- God expects us to check out the party platforms, candidate voting records, candidate websites, etc.
The Word of God is to be the primary influence of how we live. It is to affect our relationships, finances, health, work, play… everything. If Jesus is our Lord, then His Word is to govern 100% of our lives. There’s a Christian saying that you may have heard before: “Either Jesus is Lord of all or He’s not Lord at all.” Ask God to show you areas of your life that you have not yet surrendered to Him. Then, cooperate and align your life with His Word.
When I stand before Jesus to receive my eternal reward, I want to be judged faithful in bringing glory to His Name with my life. It is my primary desire and I hope and pray that it is yours as well.
