What Do They See?
Recently, the Lord was reminding me about being a good example for others. He was impressing upon me that setting an example for others to follow is crucial, especially in the times we live in.
You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. II Corinthians 3:2-3 (New International Version, NIV)
When people look at us, what do they see? If we are indeed living letters to be read by all men, what do our actions and attitudes tell them? Are we treating people right? Are we expressing God’s love with a kind word or doing good for others? Do they see us heading to church on Sunday with our Bibles in tow and then see us continuing to act like Christians the rest of the week? I hope so.
Are we living right, or do people hear us bickering and fussing? Are we reaching out to our neighbors? When our neighbors see us in the neighborhood, can they expect a smile and a friendly greeting from us? Would people look at us and recognize Jesus living in us- or at least know that we are different?
I recall a time when I worked in a factory that a coworker told me that the plant manager spoke well of me in a meeting. It made me feel good, but it also reminded me that people are watching me and how I carry myself. I want my life to be a clear example of how a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ acts. As we set the example, it will lead others to right to Jesus.
Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. I Corinthians 11:1 (KJV)
When our lives reflect the heart of Jesus, we will be able to join the Apostle Paul in inviting others to follow the example we set. People are watching- what do they see?
