Water Safety

Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.  But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. Matthew 14:25-32 (NKJV)

I recently heard the Lord say, “There’s more safety on the water with Jesus than staying in the boat.”

God is teaching us to step out of the boat and onto the water where Jesus is. Peter stepped out when Jesus said, “Come.” We can take a step of faith based on the spoken word of Jesus. He will teach us to walk on the water and go deeper in Him and with Him. As we keep our eyes on Him rather than circumstances, He will not allow us to go under. He can sustain us out in the deep- no looking back and no going back.

It’s time to move forward with Jesus. God is calling us to a supernatural walk that leads to supernatural provision as we walk with Him. His presence will keep us and satisfy us. If we play it safe and stay in the boat there is greater danger than if we step out- the danger of complacency, of staying the same, of stagnation.

So, keep taking the steps that the Lord challenges you to take. He’s extending His Word and His hand and He won’t let you drown. Keep walking on the water with Jesus. There’s no need to fear because Jesus is near. He will keep you safe and will take you ever deeper in Him, leading you into all that He has for you.

Do you hear Him calling you? “Come, follow Me!”
