God is Good; the Devil is Bad

You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees. Psalm 119:68 (New Living Translation, NLT)

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10 (New Living Translation, NLT)

And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. Acts 10:38 (New Living Translation, NLT) emphasis mine

We are to get our doctirne and system of beliefs from scripture- and not just one verse, but multiple verses of scripture. We are let every word be established by two or three witneses (II Corinthians 13:1). In this case, we see in numerous verses that God is good. And because God is good, He can do only good.

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. James 1:17 (New Living Translation, NLT)

The enemy causes trouble and bad things to happen, so God sent Jesus to undo the devil’s wrong and to release and enforce God’s goodness. God is not out to hurt us but to help us. Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus came to give us life the way God has it- full of peace, joy, prosperity, health, etc.

Jesus went about doing good and still does because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Jesus goes about doing good and healing ALL who are oppressed, harrased, or pushed around by the devil. It is clear from the Word of God, that God is good and the devil is evil. God is good to us not just because it is what He does, but because it is who He is. He is goodness itself. Goodness cannot help but be good.

And keep in mind, God brings good out of the bad that happens to us as we pray, love, and trust God.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28 (New Living Translation, NLT)

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! Psalm 34:8 (New Living Translation, NLT)
