God Won't Let You Down
Let-downs. Disappointments. If you have ever been in any form of relationship with any person, you’ve experienced it at some level. It is simply a part of relating to imperfect human beings.
When people lose sight of the fact that no one person can meet all their needs and always make them happy, then serious issues arise. If we expect other people to be the source of our joy, self-esteem, and peace, we are building our happiness and well-being on very shaky grounds. If our self-worth is dependent on how other people receive us and treat us, we will live on a constant emotional rollercoaster.
Who we are is based in our identity in Christ. How special we are is found in the fact that Jesus died for us. Our happiness and self-confidence come from a loving relationship with our heavenly Father. Only God can meet all our needs, fulfill the longings in our hearts, and be 100 percent reliable at all times. People fail us, but He does not.
David understood pain and heartbreak. He experienced great loss and betrayal in his life, yet he always knew that he could go to God with his troubles. He often cried out to him in his anguish, and we can do the same.
To You, O Lord, will I cry; my Rock, do not be silent to me; lest if You were silent to me, then I would become like those who go down to the pit. Hear the voice of my supplications when I cry to You, when I lift up my hands toward Your most holy place…. Blessed be the Lord because He has heard the voice of my supplications. Yes, it is painful, sometimes even devastating, when people let us down. But we can take comfort in knowing that God is always faithful, always loving, and always for us. If you are hurting today or are disappointed in people, take a walk through the Psalms, and use David as an example of how you can go to God honestly and openly with your pain. Rely on Him to meet your needs. He will never turn you away.
