Maintaining The Temple

For they gave it to the workmen, and they repaired the house of the Lord with it. II Kings 12:14 (Modern English Version, MEV)

What? Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God, and that you are not your own? You were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. I Corinthians 6:19-20 (Modern English Version, MEV)

II Kings chapter 12 tells of the efforts of King Jehoash to restore the temple building, which had fallen into some disrepair. I Corinthians 6 tells us that now, as believers, we carry the Holy Spirit inside us, making us the temple of God instead of a building. And in the same way that God wanted his temple building maintained, He wants us to maintain our physical bodies. Why? To glorify Him.

When we are sick and weak because we have neglected our bodies, it does not glorify God or portray Him well to unbelievers. And when we are not functioning at our optimum level of health we lack the energy and strength to do what He has called us to do.

If the Lord is dealing with you about making changes to your lifestyle to improve your health, make a firm decision today to do it. There are numerous websites about health and wellness that give information about diet, exercise, and nutritional supplements and herbs. Since you’re already online to read this post, you can easily search for some natural health websites while you’re at it. One recommendation I would make is Dr. Josh Axe’s site, www.draxe.com.

When we invest in ourselves today we can be sure we will receive healthy dividends later. Maintain your temple and you will always be physically ready to serve God when He needs you.
