Peace, Courage and Wisdom
Remember the Serenity Prayer? It goes something like this:
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
There are three things that this prayer asks for: serenity (or peace), courage, and wisdom. The Lord has promised all three to us.
And let the peace of God rule in your heart. Colossians 3:15 (KJV)
It is up to us to allow peace to rule or direct us. We can’t change things like our past, so we can choose peace by accepting our past and moving on from it. We can accept where we are and who we are.
Be strong and of a good courage Joshua 1:6 (KJV)
God gives us courage to move forward. We are to face life with faith and not fear, with strength and not weakness. We must be strong in God to overcome and conquer the enemies of faith. When we feel fear, we need to go forward in faith. Don’t let fear hold you back. God’s love casts out fear, so He has already given us courage- we just need to walk in it. We are more than conquerors and we can take the land. We go forward in courage to change what we can change. Talk the Word: Who God is and what God has done, and courage will fill your heart.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5 (KJV)
If we need wisdom, we can ask God for it and He will give us wisdom on what to do and how to do it. There are some things we cannot change or do anything about and the wisdom from God helps us understand when that might be the case.
If we can change things, then we go ahead and change them. If not, we accept that fact and hold on to our peace. That way we’re not fighting battles God never called us to fight. When it is something we need to impact or change, we need to do it correctly, always walking in love. And we need to do what is needed without backing down, being courageous in the Lord. Don’t be intimidated by life because God is life and you can live victoriously through Christ.
Through God’s wisdom, we learn to live a peaceful and courageous life, strong in the Lord. We overcome no matter what. Instead of problems conquering us, we can conquer problems through Jesus. When we walk with God, walking in peace, courage, and wisdom, we live the way God intended.
