Remember to Forget

Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, for they are from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; according to Your mercy remember me, for Your goodness’ sake, O Lord. Psalm 25:6-7 (NKJV)

We need to remember these verses and forget the sins of our past- because God does not remember them. However, what God does remember are His tender mercies and lovingkindness.

  • Tender mercies: God feels love towards us and not hatred or anger- not even disappointment. God has positive feelings towards us.

  • Lovingkindness: God loves us, and His love is kind, rather than harsh. He helps us in our time of need because He loves us, no matter how many times we have failed Him. The Lord’s love for us never fails; He will always love us.

We would all do well to remember how much the Lord loves us and how great His forgiveness is. In God’s mind, it is as if our past sins never happened. We’ve been washed in the blood of Jesus. God says that our past sins and iniquities will He remember no more. Therefore, we need to follow His lead and forget them too.

I, yes I, am the One and Only, who completely erases your sins, never to be seen again. I will not remember them again. Freely I do this because of who I am! Isaiah 43:25 (The Passion Translation, TPT)

I will be merciful when they fail, and I will erase their sins and wicked acts out of My memory as though they had never existed. Hebrews 8:12 (The Voice, VOICE)
