Stability
And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. Psalm 30:6 (KJV)
For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee. Psalm 31:22 (KJV)
To me, these verses show us that we don’t need to get too high or too low. I have personally experienced exceptional times of God’s blessings, presence, Word, and His marvelous workings. I wanted with all my heart to stay in that place, but as we know, seasons change. Then rough times follow and we tend to speak things in haste.
I have gone from owning houses, even building a new house, to selling or giving it all away in order to follow God’s call. As a result, I have experienced some really tight places. But, like Paul, I’ve learned to be content. I know how to abse and to abound because I can do all things through Christ who stengthens me.
I know how to get along and live humbly [in difficult times], and I also know how to enjoy abundance and live in prosperity. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret [of facing life], whether well-fed or going hungry, whether having an abundance or being in need. I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.] Philippians 4:12-13 (Amplified Bible, AMP)
We need to learn to stay the same no matter the circumstances: steady and strong in Christ, guided by the Holy Spirit. As a result, we will not speak hastily or make snap decisions. Instead, we will follow God successfully through it all. That’s called stability.
