The Positive Side of Feelings

We seek God by faith, and we seek until we find Him- or until we feel His presence. Faith touches God, then He touches us.

That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: Acts 17:27 (KJV) emphasis mine

God may pull back a bit, not leaving us, but keeping His distance to cause us to seek after Him. This holy “hide and seek” is so we will find Him. When we don’t feel God, then we seek Him by faith based on His Word. God wants us to trust Him when we can’t trace Him.

The Lord has given us feelings in order to enjoy God. It is okay to feel good about God- after all, we are to love Him with all our strength and soul. We’re to love God with our whole being, including our souls, which is the mind, will and emotions.

King David expressed his emotions toward God in outward exppressions of dancing, leaping, twirling, singing, shouting, and playing instruments. I know when I feel God, my praise and worship goes to a new level.

When we love someone, we feel good about them. Remember, love is not based on feelings, since feelings come and go. People can fall in and out of love if they base it all on feelings. The love of God is based on a choice. Jesus didn’t feel like going to the cross, but He chose to because He loved us. Jesus was held on the cross by two things: nails and His love for us.

The book of the Song of Solomon (also called Song of Songs) is a love song about a husband and wife sharing their love towards each other with their feelings. So, feelings are not always a bad thing. They have a positive role in our lives if we do not allow them to rule us.

The Lord gave us feelings to express ourselves and enjoy life as it glorifies God. Let your feelings be a tool that works for you, not against you, in seeking after and enjoying God.
