A Heart of Worship

My heart, O God, is quiet and confident, all because of you. Now I can sing my song with passionate praises! Awake, O my soul, with the music of his splendor. Arise, my soul, and sing his praises! I will awaken the dawn with my worship, greeting the daybreak with my songs of light. Wherever I go I will thank you. All the nations will hear my praise songs to you. Psalm 108:1-3 (The Passion Translation, TPT) emphasis mine

David wrote such beautiful Psalms. This passage from Psalm 108 shares with us his heart of worship and the amazing effects of sincere worship to God.

When our eyes are fixed on the Lord, looking, trusting, and resting in Him, we will have quietness of being and we will be confident, not stressed, worried, or troubled. Why? Because of God and Who He is. This will help us to sing with passionate praise. When we are focused on Him, nothing will stop us from singing; nothing will stop our praises to Him. Many waters cannot quench our love for God.

When the storms of life come, our praises will be stronger than the storm. It will cause us to rise above it, where we can ride the winds of praise to overcome in victorious fashion. When we worship God for who He is, our worship awakens everything around us and in us. As we respond to His goodness, love and faithfulness, we sing out with thanksgiving to Him.

The final sentence of that passage shares a powerful truth: our praise and worship affects the nations. As we let our praise and worship come forth, we will see change in the earth and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit will be released. The gospel will go to the nations and we will reap the endtime harvest, which we will present as an offering to the Lord.

David’s writings can teach us much about worship. After all, God called him a man after His own heart. Isn’t that what we all want to be?
