Remembering

For he will never be shaken; The righteous will be remembered forever. Psalm 112:6 (New American Standard Bible, NASB), emphasis mine

He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19 (New Living Translation, NLT), emphasis mine

Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past. Ask your father and he will tell you, your elders, and they will explain to you. Deuteronomy 32:7 (New International Version, NIV), emphasis mine

These are just a few verses that show that our God expects us to remember the important things of the past. Today is Memorial Day in the United States, a day set aside to remember and recall the sacrifices of brave men and women who have defended our country. As we look back on our own history and the many who have died so that we could live free, let us also remember the God who has watched over our nation from its inception.

Many will say that the United States is not a Christian nation, but our historical documents say otherwise. I would recommend that you pull up the historical evidence that our country was dedicated to God from the very beginning. Read the original documents like the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution itself, just to name a few. If you go to sites that maintain historically significant documents, such as wallbuilders.com, you can find legal documents, publications, speeches and writings of the generations that have gone before us, including those who are considered our founding fathers. In most of them, God is referenced over and over, as well as Providence, which was a name they used to refer to God in those days. Although history books may try to tell us that our founders were godless, their original writings tell us otherwise.

While it is important and necessary to remember the many who died on fields of battle in defense of the United States and freedom, it is even more important to recognize and recall the God who has watched over our country to bless it and prosper it. The security and safety of this nation has come by the protecting hand of God Almighty, and none other. Documented accounts of miraculous events in battle, from the Revolutionary War to World War II to the present, reflect the active role God has played in guarding our country.

As we remember the Lord and turn our hearts back to Him as a nation, we will once again hear freedom ring from shore to shore. Unity will return, and we will once again be One Nation Under God. God is not finished with us yet and we have a great end time work to do. Praise God, our Liberator and Defender, the Orchestrator and Architect of the United States of America! May we never forget His mighty works on our behalf and on behalf of all who love freedom. God bless America.
