Just Rest
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30 (KJV)
The word rest in the Greek means to rest, relax, calm, refresh.
When you’re tired and worn out, it’s not the time to do more. Instead, come apart from the craziness; come apart so you don’t fall apart. Come to Jesus, and He will give you rest- not stress.
How do we find rest?
Come to Jesus.
Receive the rest He offers.
Give everything to Jesus (I Peter 5:7).
Believe God to enter Jesus’ rest (Hebrews 4:3)
Choose to rest. Don’t let care or worry take you out of the rest of God.
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Psalm 37:7 (KJV)
The word rest in this verse means to be silent in the Lord. When we rest in the Lord, we are trusting in Him, knowing He’s got it. If we do get out of the rest of the Lord, we can just come to Jesus to let Him fill us back up with Himself. We are refreshed, refilled and strengthened by His Word to do life’s daily responsibilities. As we rest in Jesus we will find His peace. It is not rest from work, but rest while we work. It is rest in our souls (mind, will and emotions), making us undisturbed and composed, being ruled by God’s peace instead of stress.
Cease from your labors of trying to please God, knowing you’re accepted in Christ and His finished work. When you do, all that’s left is peace and rest.
