Paid In Full
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32 (KJV)
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Matthew 6:12 (KJV)
We are to forgive others just as God has forgiven us. Jesus paid a debt we couldn’t pay. When He said, “It is finished,” He was saying the debt was paid in full. His forgiveness freed us from the debt of sin. As we receive His forgiveness, He sets us free. Then as we forgive others, not only do they go free, but we do too.
Stop trying to make people pay what they owe you for wrongs they committed against you. Stop having expectations of them paying for what they did. Some can’t pay you back. Some won’t pay you back. And some don’t even have a clue that they should pay you back. The truth is that they don’t have to pay you back. (If that makes you raise your eyebrows, read on for an explanation).
Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor [who practices loving others] has fulfilled the Law [relating to one’s fellowmen, meeting all its requirements]. Romans 13:8 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)
We all owe a debt- and that is to love others, just as God loves us. Instead of looking to people to pay you back for life’s injustices, look to God to pay you back. He will, because our debt was paid in full on the cross (Colossians 2:14). Wait for God’s pay day. All the unfair, unjust treatment, things that should have happened, things that shouldn’t have happened- they will all be taken care of. God is just; He will make it up to us.
Fix your hope on God, the One who richly provides everything for our enjoyment. I Timothy 6:17 (The Voice, VOICE)
As we receive His forgiveness, forgive others, and receive all Christ provided for us at the cross, we will be paid back. After all, He paid for it all, and now He gives us freely all things to enjoy. Truly, it is paid in full.
