The Healing Word

The Healing Word

He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalm 107:20 (KJV)

No matter what we are suffering from physically, there’s a cure for any and all of it: the Word of God. As we consider this, it’s important to remember that it this verse has more than one layer, as most of them do.

On one hand, we know that Jesus is the Word made flesh, according to the first chapter of John’s gospel. Looking at the verse from this perspective, we can see that God sent Jesus to purchase healing for us, being the ultimate offering for sin. When Jesus died on the cross, He forever removed the curse from us, because we know that cursed is the man who hangs on a tree.

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree. Galatians 3:13 (KJV)

The curse consists of sickness, poverty, and spiritual death. All three have been eradicated by Jesus. Therefore, we know that Jesus paid for our healing and good health.

Then, as we look at another layer of this verse, we see that God literally sent His Word- the scriptures- to heal us. The spoken Word of God carries healing power, because it brings the faith that we need to receive our healing (Romans 10:17). The Word of God is the will of God, so as we speak it, we are agreeing with God.

Jesus purchased our healing, and we activate it by speaking the Word of God. It’s like taking medicine- only better because there are no adverse side effects!

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Proverbs 4:20-22 (KJV)
