Becoming Who You Are
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. II Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. I Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)
As Christians, we’re born of God’s Spirit. He is our Father and we are His children. When we were born-again, God deposited all He is in each of us- in seed form by His Word. Now, we must grow into who God made us on the inside. Who we are in the spirit man must affect our souls (minds, wills and emotions), so our thinking becomes transformed. And it must work its way out through our bodies so we are living out the life that is in our spirits. Then we begin to live life as God intended.
As we are transformed, more and more we live the God kind of life; one of love, joy, peace, power, victory, etc. As we renew our minds to God’s Word, our thinking becomes more like God’s, which causes our speech to line up with God’s Word. When that happens, we are empowered to be doers of His Word. As we live out of our spirits, rather than out of emotions or reasoning, our real God-like nature is exposed. As a result, we become who we already are.
For example, I’m righteous according to the Word of God. As I follow the process of becoming who I am, renewing my mind, thinking in line with the Word and speaking what it says, my actions will become actions of right living. Therefore, the righteous person that God planted in me comes out and I become who He already made me to be. At that point, my inner man (spirit) dominates my middle man (soul) and my outer man (body) by God’s help.
When our spirits, souls, and bodies function correctly and in harmony with God, we live out who He made us to be. He made us to be blessed, loved, healed, free, forgiven, wise, and full of purpose. We are becoming who He made us to be, which is just like Him.
