Love Covers

Love covers all sins. Proverbs 10:12 (NKJV)

Love is patient, love is kind. I Corinthians 13:4 (NIV)

(Love) bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. I Corinthians 13:7 (NKJV)

In I Corinthians 13:7, the word bear is stego in the Greek and means to cover, protect and shield.

God’s love covers our sins. Of course, Jesus’ blood actually washes sin away. The point is that God’s love covers our weaknesses, faults, failures, missteps, and misspoken words. He sees us with a heart of love and eyes of compassion and understanding. He doesn’t want to hurt us, but help us. He works with us to learn and grow, to try and try again- and to keep on trying.

God’s love covers and He wants us to do the same. He wants us to overlook offenses and forgive. It doesn’t mean we condone sin., but we love the person in spite of what they’ve done. It means we never give up on someone. And it means we don’t go around telling people what they’ve done. Love helps us to keep our mouths shut and to pray for them instead.

Instead of stabbing each other in the back, let’s have each other’s backs. I love you and you love me. I look out for you and you look out for me. We need to stop exposing each other’s sins, shortcomings, and failures. We should cover one another with the love of God, shielding and protecting each other. Rather than casting stones, let’s turn those stones into bread, meaning that we should help and not hurt. We are to nourish and nurture people instead of giving them what they deserve.

Let’s build and lift one another up instead of always casting stones at each other. It’s time to put down our stones and fall on our Cornerstone, Jesus, so He can help us stand together. Let’s look for the best in each other. Love believes the best and hopes for the best in people.

As we cover each other in love, we will begin to see the beauty in the people we meet. God’s love covers us, so let’s act like His children and cover one another.
