Don't Ditch Church
Not forsaking our meeting together [as believers for worship and instruction], as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more [faithfully] as you see the day [of Christ’s return] approaching. Hebrews 10:25 (Amplified Bible, AMP)
This verse tells us not to ditch going to church. Going to church is good for us, especially when we feel down or we’re hurting. Although we may not feel like being around others, that’s the time we need to go. When we do, we’re refreshed by God’s presence, encouraged by God’s Word, and strengthened by other believers.
The devil does his best to keep us out of church because he knows it is where we can get strengthened and empowered. He understands there is power in numbers and he wants to keep us all apart.
Then I went into your sanctuary, O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked. Psalm 73:17 (New Living Translation, NLT)
Going to church helps us to see and know things we didn’t before. Church is to be a place where we learn truths of God’s Word and apply that new knowledge to our lives.
I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” Psalm 122:1 (New American Standard Bible, NASB)
Church is a place where joy is found and our hope is renewed.
Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. Psalm 84:10 (New International Version, NIV)
Psalm 84 is a psalm that talks about the blessings and benefits of being in God’s presence. Take some time to read the entire psalm- you’ll see what you can gain by going to God’ house. And, on Sunday, head to the sanctuary to be built up and equipped for the week to come!
