Jesus Is Our Hope

…God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope. I Timothy 1:1 (NKJV)

This verse contains several names, or titles, of Jesus.

  • Savior: our salvation

  • Lord: ruler, owner, master

  • Jesus: One who saves

  • Christ: The anointed One and His anointing

Wow, consider all these amazing names for Jesus and what they mean. He is the Savior who saves us from our sins and every evil thing. He is truly our Deliverer. He is Lord. As we make Jesus our Lord, He can rule in our lives and have ownership of our hearts. As such, He is the Master; the Teacher, instructing us about God and how to walk in who He is and who we are in Him. He is Jesus, the Salvation of God. Jesus is the Name above all names (Philippians 2:9-11). Jesus translated from Hebrew into Greek means the Lord is salvation. He has saved us from our sins, and He saves us daily from all we face in life: pain, fear, worry, etc. Our authority is found in the name of Jesus (Mark 16:17-18) and we use it to win in life. Finally, as Christ, He is the anointed One and His anointing. The anointing empowered Him to walk in the power and will of God, and it does the same for us now. Christ in us anoints us to do all He has called us to do.

No wonder Jesus is our hope. These four names or titles show us that He is the One who never disappoints, never deserts, never lets us down. Our confident expectation is in our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, who will always come through for us. There’s no need to fear or worry. Just set your hope on Jesus, and you will see Who He is and what He will do for you.
