Count On The Good Shepherd
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Psalm 23:1-6 (KJV)
The Lord is our Shepherd, which is Jehovah Roi in Hebrew. He is with us and for us. Like a shepherd, when we are hungry, He feeds us. He gives us spiritual food (His Word) and natural food. When we are thirsty, He leads us to living waters that will refresh our spirits, restore our souls and revive our bodies.
Because Jesus, the good Shepherd is with us, we need not fear anything or anyone. He will take care of things and He will take care of us. He is always present- He is our faithful and constant Friend. He really is all we need. He is our Leader, Guide, Provider and Protector. He never, ever leaves us.
Sometimes a sheep may become what is called cast down, meaning it gets stuck on its back and cannot turn itself over. If not rescued by the shepherd, the sheep will surely die. As our Good Shepherd, Jesus lifts us up when we are cast down, when we are flat on our back. He gently picks us up and places us back on our feet. He is with us to lift our soul back up when we are cast down.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God. Psalm 43:5 (KJV)
He is there for us when no one else is. We can always count on Him for help. He’s the Glory and Lifter up of our head. He’s our Good Shepherd and He will always take care of His sheep.
