A Simple System for Soul-Winning
But a life lived loving God bears lasting fruit, for the one who is truly wise wins souls. Proverbs 11:30 (The Passion Translation, TPT)
Many people back off when they hear someone talk about soul-winning. Many of use are self-conscious and fearful of being rejected or scorned if we reach out to tell others about Jesus. However, Jesus commanded us to win souls for Him and the Kingdom.
So go and make followers of all people in the world. Matthew 28:19 (New Century Version, NCV)
God’s heart is souls. He doesn’t want anyone to die and go to an eternity in hell. But, He already did His part. He died, went to hell, and rose again for mankind. Now it is up to us as believers to carry this good news to others so they can receive it and be saved.
Perhaps you’re thinking, “How do I tell someone about God?” I believe the best way to introduce people to Jesus is by sharing your own personal testimony and experience. Tell about how He has changed your life and give instances of how He has blessed you. Sharing our personal experience is more genuine and has the ring of sincerity to it rather than using some sort of canned speech. No one can refute a changed life.
Maybe you’re thinking, “I don’t know enough Scripture to lead anyone to the Lord.” To be honest, if you will keep a small Bible with you, I can tell you how to lead someone easily through Scripture and show them the way to be saved- by only remembering one verse.
Simply remember to start at Romans 3:23. And if you have to, write Romans 3:23 inside the cover of the Bible. Turn to Romans 3:23 and allow them to read it out loud.
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23 (New Living Translation, NLT)
This establishes that everyone has sinned and needs a Savior. No one is exempt. Now, for the trick about how to get to the next scripture. Before you use that Bible, be sure to open to Romans 3:23 and in the corner of the page or in the margin somewhere, write the next verse to go to. All the verses we’ll use for soul-winning are in Romans, so you don’t even need to write Romans, you can just write the numbers. So, on the page where you turned to read Romans 3:23, you’ll find that you’ve written 6:23 in the margin. So now you know to turn to Romans 6:23 to have them read that verse next.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 (New Living Translation, NLT)
This establishes that sin brings death, but we can have the free gift of eternal life by accepting Jesus. And in the margin of this page, you’ll have previously written 10:13, so you know the next place to go to is Romans 10:13.
For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13 (New Living Translation, NLT)
So now you have shown them that all they have to do is call on Jesus and they will be born-again. And in the margin of this page, you will have previously written 10:9. And, depending on your Bible, you may not even have to turn the page, but you’ll go right to Romans 10:9 to tell them how to pray to be saved.
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 (New Living Translation, NLT)
At this point you can lead them in a prayer to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. So, there you have a nice, simple system for leading people to Jesus! And all it takes is a pocket-sized Bible and a little ink.
