Eagle Eye
Did you know that the eagle has vision that is 4 to 8 times stronger than that of humans? They can see small prey, such as a rabbit, as far as two miles away. Yet, as they swoop down, their eyesight adjusts to keep their prey in focus as they get closer and closer. Such awesome and balanced vision is amazing.
What does this have to do with us and why am I bringing this up? The Bible compares believers to eagles and we can compare some of the eagle’s characteristics with how the Lord wants his children to be.
You satisfy my every desire with good things. You’ve supercharged my life so that I soar again like a flying eagle in the sky! Psalm 103:5 (The Passion Translation, TPT)
One key feature of the eagle is his keen eyesight and excellent vision. Regardless of how high he is, he has great vision and focus.
As God’s children, we are to see the big picture as well as discern the smaller details. Our visions must be balanced and made accurate by the Word of God and by revelation of the Holy Spirit. If we get too narrow and focused in on our own immediate surroundings, we get our eyes off of God and what He wants to accomplish in the bigger scope of things. And if we fail to see how God’s bigger plan requires us to partner with Him on the smaller level, important tasks for the Kingdom will be left undone. We truly must be balanced in our vision and focus.
I don’t depend on my own strength to accomplish this; however I do have one compelling focus: I forget all of the past as I fasten my heart to the future instead. I run straight for the divine invitation of reaching the heavenly goal and gaining the victory-prize through the anointing of Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14 (The Passion Translation, TPT)
The eagle’s life depends on his ability to see what he wants to catch and keep his eye on it at all times. In turn, we must keep our focus on the prize and not take our eyes off of the goal. Our success in this life and our eternal life depend on it.
