How To Guard Your Heart- Part 1

Guard your heart diligently, for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23 (Tree of Life Version, TLV)

This says we are to make guarding our hearts a priority. Why? Because your life flows out from your heart. Life, wisdom, abilities, the fruit of the Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit, the very sources of life, dwell in your heart- the deepest part of you. As goes your heart, so goes your life. Therefore, we must guard and watch over our hearts.

How do we guard our hearts? We do this by what we think, see and hear; by what we expose ourselves to. We are our own gatekeepers. When someone offends or hurts us, will we think on it, dwell on it, talk about it? If we do, we let the offense, hurt, or wrong fester and grow in us where a root of bitterness can spring up and ruin us. What we allow in our hearts will come out of our hearts and produce that kind of life.

Close the gate to your heart from all sin, evil and bad relationships, and open your heart to God, His Word, and His Spirit. As you fill yourself up with God, it will leave no room for all the bad stuff to get in. You will protect your heart so you go from faith to faith, victory to victory, and glory to glory- getting stronger, wiser, healthier, and richer in all the things of life and God.
