Choose Wisely

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. Deuteronomy 30:19 (KJV)

God has given us free will to make choices. We can choose to accept or reject Jesus, to make Him Savior and Lord- or not. We can use our will to choose God’s will. Each time we choose to do the right thing it strengthens our will to resist sin. And the more times we give in to sin, this weakens our will where we continue to sin as a lifestyle. You see, everyone messes up once in a while. When we sin, we must choose to repent and be forgiven by God. However, when we continue in sin, it becomes a lifestyle and will eventually separate us from God.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 (KJV)

We can choose the thoughts we think. According to this verse, we choose our thoughts and God wants us to think on good things. If we choose to think on God’s Word, it helps us to use our minds the way God intended us to. Our soul is made up of our mind, will and emotions, and they are all related. Therefore, as we use our will to choose our thoughts, it affects our emotions. If we feel depressed, sad or worried, most of the time we can trace it back to thinking on the wrong stuff. When we renew our minds by the Word of God, we choose to think on the Word and we experience more positive emotions.

We can choose the words we speak. The thoughts we choose birth the words we speak. When we choose to think on the Word of God, it will come out of our mouths. And words have creative power, so what we speak sets things in motion for our lives. If we are thinking and speaking the right things, it will affect the results we experience. Jesus said we can have what we say (Mark 11:23), so thinking and speaking correctly are important.

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. James 1:19 (KJV)

We are to be slow in our response so we can choose to respond correctly in every situation. As we slow down and think before we speak, we choose the correct thoughts which will lead us to the correct words which will lead us to the correct course of action. And we will experience a better outcome.

We can literally choose who we are: people who are happy or sad, glad or mad, wise or foolish, loving or uncaring. No one can make us do anything if we don;t want to- not God, the devil or man. God has left the choice up to each of us to decide who we will be and what we will do with our lives.

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)

We are what we choose. We have what we choose. Every choice has a result, or consequence. Choose wisely to have the life you desire.
