Becoming Christlike

What is Christ-likeness? First, we must know that Jesus is the Christ- the Messiah anointed by God. Jesus is the Anointed One with the anointing of God to be and do all God called Him to. Jesus said in Luke 4:18 that the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him because He had anointed Him to do good works, which He listed. In Acts 11:26, the disciples were first called Christians because they were anointed just like Jesus Christ. I like how The Passion Translation translates the word Christians. It calls them the anointed ones.

Together Saul and Barnabas ministered there for a full year, equipping the growing church and teaching the vast number of new converts. It was in Antioch that the followers of Jesus were first revealed as “anointed ones.” Acts 11:26 (The Passion Translation, TPT)

It simply means that believers in Christ who follow His example are like little Christs. As we follow Christ, the Anointed One of God, He anoints us to be like Him and act like Him. As we spend time with Him, the anointing will make us less like ourselves and more like Christ, enabling us to live a supernatural life of love, victory and miracles. When you hang out with someone, you begin to take on their characteristics. The same is true when we hang out with Jesus.

When we follow Christ’s example we carry on the works of Christ in the same way that He did- by the Holy Spirit. We become Christlike in thought, word and action, where all we do brings glory to the Anointed One, the Christ: Jesus.
