The Value of a Prayer Journal

The Value of a Prayer Journal

God is faithful [He is reliable, trustworthy and ever true to His promise—He can be depended on], and through Him you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. I Corinthians 1:9 (Amplified Bible, AMP)

Prayer is one of the greatest privileges a Christian has. We have access to petition God directly because Jesus gave us that access. And Jesus told us that the Father would answer our prayers that are prayed in His name. However, because life is so busy and we can easily become distracted, we may not recall every request we’ve made to God. And even more important, we may not realize when we experience something that is an answer to our prayers. When we see how faithful God is to answer our prayers, it encourages us and builds our faith. Therefore, it is important to maintain a prayer journal so we can record our prayer requests and so we can record the answers to our prayers.

The type and format of your journal is not as important as creating a written record of your prayers and the answers. It can be a notebook, diary, or even a record you maintain on your phone or computer. The important thing is to document your prayers. Some prayers may be answered quickly and some may take years to manifest. If we have our prayers written down, we can regularly review our journal to see if any of our prayers have recently been answered so we can give God praise.

As we take time to write our prayer requests down and take time to routinely go through our journal to document God’s answers to those prayers, we will see the faithfulness of God more clearly. As a result, we will be even bolder and more confident in our prayers. God is faithful, and your prayer journal is evidence of His personal faithfulness to you.
