Our Choices Can Change The World
Have you ever seen a commercial for a movie or TV show and just shook your head in disbelief? To be completely honest, the majority of movies and television shows today are clearly demonically inspired. The devil has become so bold that he doesn’t even bother to hide the evil source of most of today’s “entertainment.” And his puppets in Hollywood believe that they can release whatever they want and we’ll just eat whatever they serve up.
Some of the same believers who complain about the state of today’s movies, television and music will turn right around and spend their money on such things, rationalizing that there is no good alternative. When we see movies featuring pornographic scenes, twisted plots, demonic monsters or supernatural phenomenon that is not attributed to God, we are reinforcing Hollywood’s idea that they can dish out whatever they want. We are actually helping to finance the devil’s agenda. Yes, we all enjoy the experience of going to the movies or settling down at home with some popcorn and a sitcom. However, when we compromise and expose ourselves to what satan puts out in such entertainment, we are opening the door for the enemy to get access to our lives.
How do we turn the tide? The enemy has been using the media and entertainment world to his advantage for a long time. However, if each and every believer would live what the Bible teaches, including the entertainment they view and hear, we could easily chip away at the stronghold the devil has erected in Hollywood and other strategic locations. As a group, the church is a powerful force. Every time we decide to not go to the mvoies to see the latest nasty film release, we are sending a clear message. Every time we turn the TV channel from something sordid to something more wholesome, we are sending a message. Producers think in terms of sales and revenue, and when we send them a message that hits them in the wallet, then they are no longer in the driver’s seat- we are. When we demonstrate what we want by how we spend our money, they will get the message and we can control what comes out of the entertainment world.
Yes, we will have to change how we spend our leisure time. We may have to pull out a good book instead of watching something questionable. We may have to find a source of good, clean movies and television. We will have to turn the radio dial to a good Christian station. There is good Christian music out there. There are good, clean shows and movies. We just have to find them. When we cop out and watch whatever the entertainment world puts out, we become part of the problem. Our choices can change the world if we will just make the effort to do the right thing.
So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always. Philippians 4:8 (The Passion Translation, TPT)
