Waiting Upon The Lord
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
The word wait in this verse is an interesting word in the Hebrew language. It means to wait for, to look for, to hope for, to bind together, to expect.
So how do we wait on the Lord? We wait with the promises of God. Get some promises from the Word of God for your situation and bind them to your heart by reading, meditating on, and speaking them. As we hold onto the Word, the Word will hold onto us to keep us together. While we’re expecting God to meet a need we’re holding onto the Word. Until that Word is fulfilled, in the meantime we find strength in God, in His presence, in His Spirit. That strength helps us to keep hoping and expecting until we receive from Him. As we wait, hope rises and our expectation increases, and our strength is renewed like th eagle’s- strong, overcoming, and soaring.
Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. Psalm 103:5 (KJV)
The word things in this verse in Hebrew is actually words. Wow- there it is. As I wait on God, speaking His Word, my strength is renewed. To hold onto and even increase our strength, we must hold onto the Word. As we bind ourselves to the Word and speak it out, we mount up with wings like eagles and we will run and not be weary, we will walk and not faint. You will receive the strength of God from God by waiting on God. And it will cause you to rise up like eagles above the issues you face.
So, bind your heart to God by binding His Word to your heart. Then speak it out as you wait, hope for, expect and look for the promise of the Lord to come to pass. This, in turn, will give you new strength to obtain the promise, giving glory to God.
And as we wait, we can access the presence of God by worshiping Him. Our worship will bring us into the presence of the One we are waiting on. And our praise will bless the heart of God. He inhabits our praises, and we get joy and strength to wait.
