Know God's Word and God's Power

And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? Mark 12:24 (KJV)

To be a balanced believer, we must know both God’s Word and His power. The Saducees did not believe in the resurrection of the dead, indicating they didn’t know God’s Word like they should have. They had a form of godliness but denied the power of God, which the Bible instructs us not to do.

We must know God’s Word, which comes from a lifetime of study and practice. As we study God’s Word, allowing the Holy Spirit to teach us, we will learn to rightly divide its truth and meaning. As a result, we will know how to apply its truths, revelations, precepts and principles to our lives and experience God’s power.

For example, the Bible tells us to give in order to receive. If we don’t know this, then when we have a need we won’t give and we won’t experience God’s supernatural power of supply. Thus, we greatly err, not knowing God’s Word or His power. However, by learning God’s Word, we can discover that the best way to get our needs met is to meet the needs of others. When we act on that truth, we will experience God’s power in our lives to meet all our needs. The more we learn God’s Word, the more we can walk in God’s power.

As a matter of fact, God’s Word IS His power. As we speak God’s Word and act on it, we experience the power of the Holy Spirit bringing the Word to pass. By speaking the Word and putting corresponding actions with it, we release the power and move from a life lived in the natural to a supernatural way of life. As we continue to do this, we will grow in the Word and in power.

Growing in the Word brings the maturity and wisdom about how to handle God’s power to meet the needs of humanity. The Word will instruct us what to do, and the power of the Holy Spirit will show us how to do it and give us the ability to do it.

God’s Word and power are the “power twins” that help us live a balanced and effective life for Christ.
