Hold Fast
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. Hebrews 4:14 (English Standard Version, ESV)
This verse speaks of holding fast our confession, or as we would say these days, holding onto our confession tightly. In other words, we are to stand firm with it. We do this by keeping Gods’ Word in our hearts and mouths, and speaking it out faithfully every day. In this verse, the word confession might be replaced with the word profession. It speaks of holding on tightly to what we profess to be true.
We don’t change our confession when things look bad. The Bible points us to Jesus, the Living Word, and when we keep the Scriptures in front of us, we will see Jesus for who He is: Love, Goodness, Victory. When we do, we will say what we see- we will confess who He is. When our eyes are on Jesus, rather than on the negative, the wrongs, the pain, or the injustice, we will be lifted above the storms of life. What is presented to us in the natural will not defeat us, because we are looking to the Author and Finisher of our faith.
When the Greater One is lifted up, we look to Him and we hold on to what He has told us.And that is what we speak. When we do, He is the High Priest of our confession. We agree with Him and He agrees with us- and the power of God is released. When we hold fast our confession, Jesus is able to bring His Word to pass in our lives.
