Even In The Dark

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)

We lost our electrical power the other morning. It went out around 5:00 a.m. The temperatures outside were at the freezing point and it was cold and dark in the house. I had to move around carefully and slowly in the darkness, with just the beam of my flashlight to illuminate the few steps in front of me. Just before we lost power, I had spent some time in the Word and in prayer. The lights came back on a few hours later, and I heard God speak to my heart:

“Trust Me- even in the dark.”

Those are meaningful words for us all. We all face dark days. Jesus faced a very dark day when He went to the cross and was crucified. It was dark spiritually and even physically- the skies became dark, likely an eclipse. This was a sign that the Light of the World went out when Jesus died. Three days later, He arose and the Light came back on with all power and authority. This time, the power was in the rightful hands, Jesus, Who then gave it to us.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8 (KJV)

Now, as we face dark days, we do not have to fear because are children of the Light. We trust God and shine the light of His glory for the world to see.

Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. Isaiah 60:1-2 (KJV)

The light of our Lord Jesus Christ has risen up in us. The darker the day, the brighter we shine for all to see our God. His Light will never leave us or grow dim. He is Emmanuel, God with us- even in the dark.
