God Sees Differently
…For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. I Samuel 16:7 (KJV)
People see who they think we are, but God sees what we are and what we can become. When others don’t see or think much of you, God sees the heart of someone special. What man disregards, God chooses.
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. I Corinthians 1:25-29 (KJV)
The world chooses the smart, talented, educated, strong- the ones who look good on the surface. But God purposely chooses those who appear weak, to confound the strong, the not-so-smart to confound the educated. That’s not to say that the people God chooses are not smart or strong- they just don’t appear to be to the world. The ones He chooses are those who know that anything they have or become comes from the Lord. David wasn’t even included in the original line-up when Jesse called his sons in to be considered by the prophet Samuel to be anointed as king (I Samuel 16:4-13). David was tending the sheep- not too important a task by the world’s standards- but it’s how the Lord was preparing him to lead God’s people.
As we take care of what God gives us, man may not even look our way but God is watching us. As we are faithful and do things with a good attitude, God (not man) will promote us. And where God puts us, He keeps us.
David’s heart qualified him to be king. Others saw just an insignificant boy tending some smelly sheep, but God promoted him in front of the family members who didn’t think much of him. God will give you recognition for all to see. It’s not what man sees or doesn’t see that’s important; it’s what God sees.
