Our Constant Companion

When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. Proverbs 6:22 (KJV)

If you read the verses before and after this one, you’ll se that the writer is talking about God’s Word, which he calls commandment, law, and reproofs of instruction. We are to let God’s Word be our constant companion. We are to have it with us all the time, keeping it on our hearts, on our minds, and speaking it out of our mouths. We are to even sing His Word..

When God’s Word is with us at all times, it will lead us in our hearts and thoughts. It will cause us to feel right, speak right, and to do right. We’ll be aware and mindful of God’s presence. He’s our Heavenly Father, and He wants relationship and fellowship with us. Communication fosters relationship, which leads to fellowship. Fellowship means you have things in common. It is intimacy with God, and it starts with His Word.

As we sleep, God’s Word is keeping watch over us. God is working anf fulfilling His Word as we sleep. When we awake, we should listen for His voice speaking His Word to us, giving us inspiration and instruction for the day.

God’s Word becomes our constant companion as we spend time in the Word, studying it, listening to it, speaking it, and acting on it.This draws us closer to the Lord and draws Him closer to us, dispelling loneliness, sadness, darkness, hopelessness, etc.

As we put God’s Word in us, God will speak His Word to us from inside our spirit by His Holy Spirit- even reaching our mind with the message. It will penetrate from our spirit and go into our soul- mind, will, and emotions. We’ll think God’s thoughts, feel what He feels, and His will becomes our will. It will affect us spirit, soul, and body. Our spirits become more conscious of God. Our souls are in tune with God. Our bodies feel His presence. And its all because we made God’s Word our constant companion, thereby reaping the rewards of the Word.

By a continual flow of this, you’ll live in the overflow of the good things God has planned for your life. The best reward is to have the Lord as your constant companion. Doing life with God is the greatest joy and the most fulfilling way to live life. And the Word of God makes it happen.
