Peace With Yourself

Let him turn away from wickedness and shun it, and let him do right. Let him search for peace (harmony; undisturbedness from fears, agitating passions, and moral conflicts) and seek it eagerly. [Do not merely desire peaceful relations with God, with your fellowmen, and with yourself, but pursue, go after them!] I Peter 3:11 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Romans 5:1 (KJV)

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 (KJV)

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. I Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)

Read through those verses very carefully and meditate on them. Let them sink in. It is crucial that we are at peace with ourselves. Accept and celebrate who God made you to be. When you fall short or make a mistake, do you condemn yourself, despise yourself, and reject yourself? Or do you forgive yourself and decide to be at peace with yourself because you know you’re not perfect yet? Do you fight against yourself, having bad thoughts and feelings about yourself and expressing them in the words you speak?

Being against your own self is tormenting and unsettling. It is counterproductive to get in strife with yourself over bad decisions. Being hard on yourself because of how your life has turned out does not make anything any better. Give it all to God, and quit being at war with yourself. Accept yourself based on God’s love and acceptance. The enemy constantly brings negative thoughts and attitudes to us, trying to get us to hate and despise ourselves. On the other hand, God accepts you, so accept yourself.

A person’s peace, or lack of peace, with themselves will affect their entire being- spirit, soul, and body. To be whole, we must be at peace with ourselves. And the peace we have with ourselves will carry over into our relationships with others. Peace produces more contentment, happiness, and a sense of wellbeing. If you are at peace with yourself, you even achieve more.

Peace with ourselves is more important than we realize. It is the foundation of emotional and mental health. Go to God, receive His peace today, and give yourself a break.
