The Gifts of the Spirit- Part 4

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. I Corinthians 12:1 (KJV)

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. I Corinthians 12:4 (KJV)

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. I Corinthians 12:7-11 (KJV)

Today we’re continuing our discussion of the gifts of the Spirit by looking at the three Power Gifts: the gift of faith, the gifts of healings, and the working of miracles.

The Gift of Faith

This is not the same as the measure of faith that is given to every believer. It is a supernatural faith- an ability to believe God for the miraculous and impossible, especially during a trial or suddent attack. When we come to the end of our faith, then the gift of fatih takes over. It is faith that kicks in when our measure of faith is not strong enough yet to handle the trial or attack or to receive God’s promises fulfilled. We see this in Acts 27:22-25, Romans 4:20

Gifts of Healings

Jesus operated in the gifts of healings often. The gifts of healings manifest in supernatural cures to sickness, illness, injury and disease. God has healing for every sickness. There is no such thing as an incurable disease, disorder, or problem with God. Believers are to lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. The gifts of healings often work in partnership with the gift of faith and even with the working of miracles. Notice it is mentioned in the plural sense- healings. God may use a number of methods to execute the gifts of healings, such as laying on of hands, speaking the Word, the use of prayer cloths, etc. We see the gifts of healing in Matthew 4:23-25, Mark 16:18, Acts 3:6-8, Acts 4:30, Acts 10:38, to name a few.

Working of Miracles

This is when we work with the Holy Spirit to work a miracle, or something that defies natural law. A miracle alters the course of nature, such as when Jesus walked on the water or when He turned water into wine. When we think of the supernatural, we usually think of the working of miracles because it is usually the most obvious of the gifts to see. We see this gift in Matthew 14:15-20, Matthew 14:22-32, John 2:1-11.

The Power Gifts are just as they sound- they display the power and ability of God to override the natural limitations of this world. Tomorrow, we’ll wrap up by digging into the final category of spiritual gifts: the Vocal Gifts.
