My Psalm

I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. Psalm 34:1-2 (KJV)

Return, O Lord, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake…. Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping. Psalm 6:4, 8 (KJV)

Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day. Psalm 71:8 (KJV)

Psalms are songs written to and about God. David poured out his heart to the Lord in worship and even in agony. We can create our own psalms to the Lord; our own personal songs to Him. Here is one that I created to honor God.

We need more of You, God. We need to live to know You more, to be filled to overflowing with the Lord. So, God I seek Yu. I worship You. I love You with all my heart, soul, strength, and mind. And yet, by Your Spirit and with Your love, I can love You more, worship you more deeply. I live to worship You, God, and to be with You, Lord. As I see You more and more, I know You for who You are. However, in my searching, I see there is so much more of You to know. By Your revelation I behold You. I see You more clearly and I hold You dearer to my heart. I bless you at all times and I keep Your praise on my lips continually. I sing to You, oh God. As I worship You and love You, You take me deeper and deeper into You. You draw me closer to You. You’re the reason I live- to know and love and worship You. So, the more I seek You, the more I see and know You, and I know You are always near to me and with me, Oh Lord. The songs I sing are all for You, God.

This is a simple example of a psalm. A psalm is simply putting our thoughts about the Lord into song. It doesn’t have to rhyme or sound poetic. It is just the act of making up your own song to Him. I encourage you to try your hand at creating some psalms of your own. They will help you draw closer to the Lord.
