Jesus Addresses Man's Spirit, Soul, & Body
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. I Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)
This shows us that human beings are spirit, soul, and body; tri-part beings. Man is a tri-part being because he is made in the image of God, and God is the original tri-part being, or Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God wants us sanctified and set apart wholly- the whole man- spirit, soul, and body. We are to be preserved blameless in every part of our being, which speaks of wholeness- nothing missing and nothing broken. The Lord wants us preserved blameless in all three parts until the coming of Christ; the rapture of the church.
Jesus addressed all three aspects of man. In Luke 12:22-34, Jesus talked about God meeting man’s physical needs, or the needs of his body. He also spoke of man’s soulish part, or his mind and how he should think. And He addressed faith and man’s heart, speaking of the spirit of man.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1 (KJV)
As Christians, we are to serve God with our bodies- as a living sacrifice. We are to do what He wants us to do, knowing that God will provide for our physical needs like food, clothing and shelter.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2 (KJV)
We need to adjust our thinking and begin to think like God. If God takes care of His creation, surely He will take care of us. We have to renew our minds to God’s Word and His ways to trust Him and follow His commands. We aren’t to be need-minded, but God-minded. Believe God- after all He is your Father. He knows your needs and will provide for you. As you begin to meditate on the Word, it will get into your heart, your spirit. Have faith in your heart and do not be of a doubtful mind. Don’t let anything steal your faith in your Heavenly Father. Make Jesus the treasure of your heart.
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32 (KJV)
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Luke 12:34 (KJV)
Everything you need for your spirit, soul, and body is provided in God’s kingdom. So, give your body to God for His service. Surrender your will- your mind, will, and emotions to God- by His Word thinking, choosing, and feeling like God does. With your heart, or your spirit, love and trust God completely. In this, we glorify God spirit, soul, and body.
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. Mark 12:30 (KJV)
