Keys To Walking in Christ

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him. Colossians 2:6 (KJV)

Once we are saved, many of us don’t apply the truth of how we were saved to the practical everyday aspects of living for Christ. What I mean is that we are to live the Christian life in the same way we were born again. How did you receive Christ? Romans 10 tells us.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)

With your mouth you confessed that Jesus is Lord and believed in His resurrection with your heart. That’s how you were saved. Believing it in your heart put you in right standing with God. You became righteous because Christ, who is your righteousness, made you righteous (I Corinthians 1:30). Therefore, God views you as righteous. Confessing it with your mouth spoke your salvation into being and you became a new creation (II Corinthians 5:17). That’s how you were saved and became born again.

The way that you received Christ is the same way you now live in Christ and how you allow Him to live in and through you. By believing in Christ’s lordship in your heart and confessing it with your mouth is how you walk in Christ. Confessing Jesus Christ as Lord of your life makes Him Lord of your life and keeps Him Lord of your life. You confess who Christ is: Lord, God, the Word, Savior, Healer, Provider, Protector, etc. As you speak out who He is, this empowers you to walk in Christ, living as Christ did and allowing Him to live thorugh you.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 (KJV)

You can’t live the Christ life on your own strength- it requires His divine ability living through you.

Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Colossians 2:7 (KJV)

To walk in Christ, you must rooted in Christ by His Word. Ephesians 3:17 instructs us to be rooted and grounded in love. God is love according to I John 4:8. Love is good soil in which to put down roots. You are to grow in the soil of God’s love. Jude 1:20 tells us we are built up in faith by praying in the Holy Spirit. This builds up our faith and keeps us strong so we continue walking and living in Christ.

You are established in the faith by knowing Jesus- through His Word, through teaching of the Word, thus learning more about Who God is. You learn that God is love, faithful, and just. This teaches you to be thankful. When you’re thankful to God, you move forward into what He has for you.

Believe in your heart what the Word says and confess it with your mouth, Walk with Christ by knowing Him through His Word and through the teaching of the Word. Allow Him to live in you and through you through a lifestyle of prayer and maintaining an attitude of thanksgiving. These are all key aspects of walking in Christ.
