A Heart of Innocence
It can be easy for us to become cynical and suspicious. Mankind without God is corrupt and dishonest, and we can easily become jaded from our interactions with them. And, without realizing it, that attitude can carry over into our relationship with God. Such an attitude hinders faith.
Our hearts towards the Lord are to be trusting and believing- like a child. We are to approach Him and approach life with the innocent trust and faith of a child.
And said, Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving], you can never enter the kingdom of heaven [at all]. Matthew 18:3 Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)
Distrust of the Lord is essentially the same as unbelief. Failure to trust the Lord means you don’t believe what He says. We must choose to believe Him over everything else. We do this by first getting in His Word so we actually know for ourselves what He says. Then, as we spend time in the Word, it gets into our hearts. As it is sown in our hearts, the Word grows and produces faith, which gives us the desired outcome.
Deciding to get in the Word and staying in it will help us to have and maintain a heart of innocent faith in God. It is only by becoming as little children and trusting Him explicitly can we expect to experience the kingdom of God in our lives. Without the Word, our logical, reasoning minds seek to look at the physical circumstances and are usually in direct opposition to the truth of what God tells us. Become immersed in the Word, and you will be transformed into someone who walks in a heart of innocent faith and trust in the Lord.
