It Is I
And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. Mark 6:48-50 (KJV)
Jesus came out to the disciples on the sea as they were struggling to row against the wind and waves. It was His intention to help them. He was not coming to do them harm, but they misinterpreted what was going on. They saw Him walking on the water and they became afraid. They mistook Him for a ghost. They thought it was something that would harm them, but it was actually God coming to help them.
How many times have we misunderstood what was going on in our lives? If we are not paying close attention and listening intently to the Holy Spirit, we may think something that is uncomfortable and unfamiliar in our lives is something that will harm us, when in actuality it is something that will bring help to us.
We are in very turbulent times. Many things in the world are taking place that are uncomfortable, and it seems that they will bring harm to us. We must pay close attention to the inner witness of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. If we do, we will understand that those things that are causing the nations to shake and quake are actually the effects of the Lord dealing with things in the earth. He is telling us to keep our joy and refuse to fear because it is Him working on our behalf. If you are a blood-bought child of God, you will not come to harm, so be comforted today. We can have perfect peace in the midst of the storm. God is saying to us, “It is I, be not afraid.”
