Nothing Against Us

He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. Colossians 2:14 (New Living Translation, NLT)

We couldn’t keep all of the Old Testament laws, so Christ canceled out the record of shortcomings that was written against us. Now, we are no longer condemned and need not fear sentence of judgment.

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Condemnation in the Greek means sentence or standing against. Christ kept all of the law for us, and now we are free from judgment; free to serve God. Jesus Christ fulfilled all the law for us and established a better covenant based on 1) a better sacrifice (Hebrews 7:22), and 2) better promises (Hebrews 8:6).

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 (New Living Translation, NLT)

We’ve been made God’s masterpiece, new in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us since before time began. Since we are made new by Christ and all He did, God is holding nothing against us. Therefore, we do not need to hold anything against ourselves. We can know we are a child of God; loved, accepted, and free.
