Heavenly Portals
At sundown he arrived at a good place to set up camp and stopped there for the night. Jacob found a stone to rest his head against and lay down to sleep. As he slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from the earth up to heaven. And he saw the angels of God going up and down the stairway. At the top of the stairway stood the Lord, and he said, “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants. Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! They will spread out in all directions—to the west and the east, to the north and the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants. What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.” Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!” But he was also afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God, the very gateway to heaven!” Genesis 28: 11-17 (New Living Translation, NLT)
The officer assisting the king said to the man of God, “That couldn’t happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven!” But Elisha replied, “You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won’t be able to eat any of it!” II Kings 7:2 (New Living Translation, NLT)
Bring the tenth part into the store-house, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the Lord of All. “See if I will not then open the windows of heaven and pour out good things for you until there is no more need. Malachi 3:10 (New Living Translation, NLT)
These verses describe portals, or what some people refer to as open windows, of heaven. There are certain locations in the earth, where the veil between the natural realm and the spiritual realm is thinner, as if there is an established opening that allows God’s angelic messengers to pass through unhindered. Such portals exist over nations, states, cities, and even specific people and their property. Christians can usually sense when the heavens are open over a certain area. When you are under a heavenly portal, answers to prayer come quicker, the gifts of the Spirit operate more freely, and the atmosphere is one of peace and rest. Supernatural occurrences are more frequent, and the interference of the enemy is weak.
Heavenly portals can be established when godly people spend time in prayer, driving out the wicked spiritual rulers over an area. Such portals can exist in a location for hundreds of years, even longer. In the Old Testament, the offering of sacrifices and the cutting of covenants with God established portals, or access places, for man to hear from God more easily and more clearly.
Often, places where God’s Spirit has been poured out with power and intensity, such as locations where great revivals have taken place, become open portals. In these locations, people can receive miracles and other blessings decades, and even centuries, after the event is over.
God wants to open the windows of heaven and pour out His blessings through His heavenly portals. Our obedience allows for portals to be opened. For example, when we tithe as He directs, He is able to open portals and bless us.
It is true that we can interact and communicate with God anywhere, but when people spend time in dedicated prayer and obedience to the Lord, the enemy is driven out and the Holy Spirit can operate more freely in that particular location. As we seek God, pray in the Holy Spirit, decree His Word, and command the devil to leave, we do our part to remove the enemy and any strongholds he has erected from our region. Through continued prayer and intercession and using our authority, we can create portals and establish an open heaven over ourselves and our communities so the blessings of God can flow!
