Any Deadly Thing...
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Mark 16:17-18 (KJV)
This is a powerful verse, especially for the times in which we currently live. Jesus specifically said that believers would walk in certain signs, and He included healing and protection from poison in the list. These days, we need to understand our covenant right to operate in these signs and use our faith in these areas.
In Jesus’ time and the time of the early church, the most common ways for poison to enter a person’s body would have been through snakebite or by ingesting poison. Injections, for example, were not widely heard of and had been rarely used only in very crude form by the Greeks and Romans. Serious development of injections did not begin until the 1600’s. Most people of Jesus’ day would not have had any knowledge of that method of internalizing poison. That’s why this passage refers to the drinking of poison or receiving it through snakebite. However, we can include any means of taking harmful or deadly things into our bodies when claiming this verse. God is telling us He will protect us from any deadly thing. This includes vaccines with questionable ingredients, chemicals added to our air, and so forth.
But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand. So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live.” But he shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm. Acts 28:3-5 (NKJV)
This is a well-known example of this promise in action. Paul was bitten by a poisonous snake and suffered no ill effects from it. We can use this verse and claim it as well, since a snakebite is actually a form of injection. Believers can stand in faith that although they may have been deceived into taking poison into their bodies through an injection, like the Apostle Paul, they will suffer no harm.
“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16 (NKJV)
Psalm 91 is a powerful Psalm of protection and deliverance, specifically mentioning plagues and other harmful threats. I encourage you to read and meditate on Psalm 91 in its entirety and in different translations to get its truth deep in your heart. Clearly, God intends to protect His children from anything that would seek to do them harm.
I hope these verses have demonstrated to you that it is God’s will to keep us from being harmed by any deadly thing. If you or someone you know took the jab, as many call it, you can stand in faith that you will suffer no harm from it. It is true that, as believers, we should be discerning about what to do and not to do. The Holy Spirit warns us against things that will harm us, and we should be sensitive and obedient to His voice. We know that refusing to hear and obey the Spirit of Truth produces undesirable results. However, every single believer has messed up in one way or another, and God is not looking to condemn us. When we repent and turn away from our previous course of action, we are cleansed of unrighteousness and have the right to stand in faith for God’s protection and divine health.
Do not fear. You must absolutely refuse to fear because fear gives the devil access to our lives. Fill up on the Word of God. Read of His supernatural protection, His healing, and most of all, His love. As we ingest the Word of God, it will neutralize any poison that has entered in. Know that you are protected from any deadly thing.
My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. Proverbs 4:20-22 (NKJV)
