Truth Bombs

Evil people will bow down in front of good people. And those who do wrong will bow down at the gates of those who do right. Proverbs 14:19 (New International Readers Version, NIRV)

If you’re someone who likes nuggets of truth or enjoy big truths contained in small packages, then Proverbs is a book for you to sink your teeth into. You might say that Proverbs is full of truth bombs, like the one noted above. Proverbs is a meaningful and highly applicable book. It is useful to each and every person who chooses to study it and take its verses to heart.

Consider the verse above, provided in the NIRV, which is a simpler, more reader-friendly version. It clearly shows that those who choose wickedness will not prosper or rule over the righteous forever, but instead will be forced to bow before them. This is a timeless truth that was correct in Solomon’s day as well as in our current times.

Where there is arguing, there is pride. But those who take advice are wise. Proverbs 13:10 (New International Readers Version, NIRV)

This truth bomb clearly tells us that arguments and other relationship issues spring out of pride. Those who humble themselves to take advice and listen to others will avoid disagreements and will gain wisdom from it. None of us is always right, and we need to humble ourselves and admit it.

Truthful words last forever. But lies last for only a moment. Proverbs 12:19 (New International Readers Version, NIRV)

As the saying goes, honesty is always the best policy. Truth will stand the test of time, but false words and deception will always be found out in the end.

These are only three examples of the practical wisdom we find in Proverbs. While it is not a stand-alone book, and we need the entire Bible to live the Christian life, we would do well to mine the deep riches of the book of Proverbs. Within its pages are impactful truths that impart wisdom and lead us on a successful and prosperous path. Open Proverbs and let some truth bombs hit you today.
