God's Motives
God is love. I John 4:8 (KJV)
God Himself is love. He doesn’t just have love- He IS love. Let that sink in for a moment. If God is love, then everything about Him is love. His thoughts are love. His words are love. His motive is love. Everything God is or does is love.-based.
God once spoke to my heart and told me that I don’t need to question His motives because everything He does for me is done out of love. God only sees things through the lens of love. When He looks at me, He looks through love-colored glasses. He sees me like He sees Jesus. Just as Jesus is His beloved Son, I am His beloved daughter. We are not just His children, but His BELOVED children.
Anything done by God is motivated by love- pure love. When He corrects us, it is because He loves us and wants to keep us on the right track. Even judgment is done out of love. God’s love motivates Him to allow people to reap what they sow. The justice of God is born out of love for us all. Judgment works to protect the innocent and to turn the wicked to repentance. Like a father who sometimes must use tough love, sometimes God must love us in ways that will cause us to do right.
God never treats His children with contempt or scorn. He does not ridicule or find ways to make us feel bad about ourselves. We are accepted. We are loved. We are His special treasure.
We don’t need to question God or His motives. Yes, He is secure and is not threatened if we question things, but we really don’t need to wonder why God does things the way He does. He is doing what He is doing because He is love and He loves us. When we get that deep in our hearts, we won’t worry or fear. We can rest easy, knowing that God is our faithful, loving Father.
